Performance Fabrics 101: Stylish, Practical, and Made for Real Life
If you’ve ever hesitated to buy a light-colored sofa because of kids, pets, or everyday spills, you’re not alone. This is where performance fabrics come in. They’ve completely changed the way I approach design—offering beauty and practicality so you don’t have to choose between style and durability.
Bright, Bold, and Beautiful: The Lilly Pulitzer Archive at 200 Lexington
I recently had the pleasure of exploring the Lilly Pulitzer archive on display at 200 Lexington, and I can’t stop thinking about how much it inspires interior design. For anyone who knows my work, you know I’m drawn to color, pattern, and personality, and stepping into this archive was like walking into a master class on both.
Plaids & Checks: The Fall Moment We’re Loving
As the air turns crisp and the days get shorter, we find ourselves drawn to the timeless comfort of plaids and checks — patterns that feel both familiar and refreshingly new this fall. Once reserved for cozy cabins and classic tailoring, these motifs are being reimagined across interiors in refined, unexpected ways.
A Roundup of My Favorite Storage Solutions
One of the most common design dilemmas I hear from clients is: “Where do we put everything?” Storage is about creating a home that feels calm, organized, and beautiful. Over the years, I’ve discovered a few tried-and-true storage solutions that not only work hard but also look great in any space. Here’s my roundup of favorites:
October Favorites: Harvest Hues & Polished Glow
Fall is for layering—textures, tones, and those small gleaming details that make a room (and an outfit) feel considered. This month’s edit mixes cozy classics with a little sparkle and a touch of modern whimsy. Here’s what I’m loving now—and how I’d style each piece.
Team Peterson in Bhutan
I went to Bhutan without many expectations—just a deep craving for time with my 81-year-old dad and my older brother. I wanted the conversations that happen only when you hike side by side, unhurried. It’s the first trip in 14 years that it’s been just the three of us. Growing up, that was our rhythm: pick a far-flung place, go as “Team Peterson,” make memories.
Guest Room, Details, Kids’ Room, Night Tables: A Few Favorite Moments from the Portfolio
I love when a home tells its story in the details—how a guest is welcomed, where a child curls up with a book, the way a night table quietly holds life’s little essentials. Here are a few snapshots from recent projects and what makes each space work.
Preparing for Bhutan: Practical Steps & Inspired Mindset
As September draws to a close, I’ll be boarding a flight to a place that has long lived in my imagination: Bhutan. Known as the Land of the Thunder Dragon, Bhutan is a country where monasteries cling to cliffsides, prayer flags ripple in the wind, and time seems to slow into a rhythm of mindfulness and beauty.
This trip will be a personal adventure and a creative reset, but as any small business owner knows, stepping away requires both careful planning and intentional presence.
A Day at The Daymark: Meeting Future Homeowners
Today was such a special day at The Daymark in Sleepy Hollow, NY. Although the building is still under construction, the sales office opened its doors to welcome new homeowners who have already purchased their units in this stunning new development at Edge-on-Hudson.
The idea was simple but so exciting: bring together a group of professionals who can help residents transform their brand-new spaces into homes they truly love. Closet organizers, window treatment experts, AV specialists, furniture representatives—and us at Style and Space—were all there to meet, connect, and share ideas.
Project Spotlight: The Griswold Residence — Upper East Side, NYC
I love this project because it lands right where I like to live stylistically: a confident mix of heirloom and new. “Granny chic,” to me, is the joy of placing a handed-down antique mirror beside a crisp, traditional-shaped console—maybe lacquered in an unexpected hunter green. That kind of juxtaposition keeps the classics forever fresh: rooted in history and craftsmanship, but very now.
September Favorites: Polished, Playful, and Ready for Fall
A new season is always my cue to edit—swap in richer textures, a touch of shine, and a few conversation starters. Here’s what I’m loving for September, from a petite accent chair to a starry lantern and the softest wool underfoot.
Savoring Summer, Welcoming Fall
As the last golden days of summer stretch out before us, there’s a certain sweetness in the air — a mix of sun-soaked memories, lingering evenings, and the gentle pull of what comes next. This time of year always feels like a threshold: one foot still in flip-flops and sundresses, the other stepping toward the structure and rhythm of fall.
Do I Renovate... or Do I Move?
A love story, a Zillow spiral, and the ultimate design dilemma.
You know the feeling. You’re scrolling Zillow late at night, sipping something cold, the kids finally asleep, your kitchen quietly judging you for still not replacing the light fixture you swore you'd change three years ago. Then it happens. Your dream house appears.
Designing Through the Chaos: Interior Design, Summer Camp Drop-Offs & Pickleball Glory
Let’s just say it: summer is beautiful... and also mildly unhinged.
One minute you’re lighting a citronella candle and sipping something that contains at least one sprig of mint, and the next you’re triple-booked between a wallpaper delivery, camp pick-up that “absolutely cannot be late again,” and a surprisingly intense pickleball tournament you signed up for on a whim.
Somehow, amidst it all, we’re still making beautiful spaces happen—and if that’s not a design miracle, I don’t know what is.
August Favorites: A Curated Edit by Kelsey
August is that golden window of late summer—when routines start to return but the air still hums with warmth and ease. This month, I’m finding inspiration in playful textures, vintage treasures, and pieces that invite both comfort and character into a space (or a getaway bag).
Here’s what I’m loving right now:
Design Notes from the Island: Inspiration from Edgartown, Chappy, and Nantucket
Every summer, I try to step away from the day-to-day and head to the island with my family. We’ve just wrapped up a few wonderful weeks spent on Chappaquiddick (or "Chappy" if you know, you know), tucked just off the coast of Edgartown, with a little time in Nantucket sprinkled in for good measure.
I worked remotely while soaking up the salty air, sharing sun-drenched afternoons with my family, laughing with mom friends who made the trek, and enjoying a dreamy overnight visit with a friend in Sconset.
But let’s be honest—once a designer, always a designer. And I couldn’t help but bring home a camera roll full of inspiration and a head full of ideas.
Designing for the Everyday: The Case for “Beautiful Practical”
We believe in beautiful homes—but not the kind that ask you to live around them. Life is inherently messy: kids spill, dogs nap where they shouldn’t, shoes pile up, and the good throw blanket becomes a fort.
And yet, your home shouldn’t feel like it’s constantly in crisis. That’s where we lean into what we call “beautiful practical”—a design philosophy that blends elevated aesthetics with everyday durability. It’s not about compromise. It’s about designing smart, with heart.
Here’s how we help clients create spaces that are both stunning and livable—one decision at a time.
July Favorites: Soft Layers, Playful Details, and Summer Living, Beautifully Done
Each season has a rhythm—and summer’s is soft, sunlit, and just a little bit slower. This month, we’re leaning into pieces that bring beauty to the everyday, with a mix of refined accents, vintage charm, and playful touches for home (and life) that feel effortless and joyful.
Here are our favorite finds for July!
Soft Renovations: How to Rethink a Space Without a Gut Job
You don’t always need to take a sledgehammer to your space to feel like you’re living in something new. At Style and Space, we often guide clients through what we call soft renovations—strategic, design-driven updates that refresh the look and feel of a home without tearing it down to the studs.
These updates aren’t just budget-friendly—they’re time-conscious, highly effective, and often where the magic happens.
Here’s how we help clients reimagine their homes—no demo required!
Beyond “Modern” or “Cozy”: How to Find the Right Design Adjectives for Your Personal Style
One of the most common questions in the design process is:
“What’s your style?”
It sounds simple, but it often makes people freeze. Do I say mid-century modern? Coastal farmhouse? Minimalist? Is “warm” a style? What if I like vintage rugs and clean lines?
The truth is: design style isn’t one-size-fits-all, and your home doesn’t need to fit into a neat, Instagrammable label. In fact, trying to define your style with just one or two adjectives can limit your creativity and leave you feeling boxed in before you even begin.
Let’s change that.
