From Builder-Grade to Beautifully Personal: A Townhouse Transformation at Edge on Hudson

When this family came to us, they had just moved into a brand new townhouse at Edge on Hudson in Sleepy Hollow, New York. The development is beautiful, the location is spectacular, and the bones were solid. But like most newly built homes, it looked exactly like every other unit in the development. Builder-grade finishes. Predictable fixtures. No personality.

That is where we came in.

The Art of Pairing Wainscoting and Wallpaper: How I Design From the Wall Up

One of the questions I get asked most often is how I decide on wainscoting height and wallpaper patterns, and how I know when they work together. The honest answer is that I rarely decide at my desk. I decide on site, with samples in hand and a pencil on the wall. Here is how I think through these decisions, and what you can see in four rooms from one of my favorite recent projects.

The Chairs That Start It All

Every great outdoor space starts with a chair. Not the rug, not the planters, not the string lights — although all of those matter — but the chair. This spring I was asked to share my picks for the best patio chairs as part of a story in New York Magazine's Strategist, and I found myself thinking hard about what really makes an outdoor chair earn its spot.

Au Revoir for Now

This trip to France is a gift — to myself, to my family, and most of all to my mom, who is turning 80 this year. She wants to ride horses through the countryside, take long self-guided walks through villages she has always dreamed of visiting, and do a little shopping. We are going to do exactly that, and I could not be more excited to celebrate her this way.

Elevating the Everyday: Transforming Builder-Grade Condos

A recent Wall Street Journal article highlighted something we see often in our work. In an effort to manage rising costs, developers are simplifying finishes. Cabinets are lighter, countertops thinner, details more minimal, and in many cases, the spaces feel just a bit unfinished.

While that can feel disappointing at first, we see it differently - it’s an opportunity.

Layering a Room Like an Outfit: Texture, Structure, and Statement Pieces

One of the easiest ways to understand how a room comes together is to think about how you get dressed.

A great outfit is never just one thing. It’s a combination of structure, texture, and a few thoughtful statements that make it feel personal and complete. The same is true in interior design.

A well-designed home is never the result of one person working in isolation. Behind every finished space is a coordinated effort between architects, builders, vendors, and designers, all moving toward the same goal.

At Style and Space, one of the most valuable roles we play for our clients is acting as the connective thread between all of these parties.

Designing with (and for) Young Kids

Designing with kids in mind doesn’t mean compromising on style. It means creating a home that works hard — one that feels calm, elevated, and authentic to the adults who live there, while still supporting the joyful chaos of everyday family life.

At Style & Space Interiors, I always say: good design isn’t precious, it’s intentional.

My Interior Design Process: From Understanding to Execution

Every project I take on begins the same way: with listening.

The first step is always meeting with the client to understand their needs, priorities, and how they live. I want to know what’s working, what isn’t, and what matters most to them. This early conversation sets the tone for everything that follows.
